SHORINRYU MATSUMURA SEITO SUIKEN HOKKOKAN (Toronto Suiken Bugeikai) is Canadian branch of Shorinryu Matsumura Seito Suiken Bugei Kai.
Our organization was founded for preserving the style of Shorinryu Matsumura Seito Okinawan Karatedo Kobudo in Canada. We are following the line of late Hohan Soken, Nishihira Kosei and Ricky Rose.
We established as a group in Toronto in September 2007. The first public group was opened in September 2008. Initially we started our activity in collaboration with Russian Canadian Cultural and Educational Centre. Our training took place in Antibes Community Centre.
From December 2010 we started to collaborate with Welcome House, Settlement Services for New Canadians and our training took place at Northview Heights SS and Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre (Arena).
From September 2015 we started to collaborate with different community group York Centre Karate and our training took place at Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre (Arena).
We still continue collaboration as on September 3, 2024 with York Centre Karate on various programs at Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre (Arena) and Earl Bales Community Centre.

Our students are also members of Karate Ontario (Ontario Karate Federation). That is only Provincial Sport Organization accredited by government of Ontario to represent officially sport of Karate. Because of that our students get a chance and big possibility to participate in Ontario Provincials championships and win medals like: gold, silver and bronze in different categories.Starting from September 2023 we establish a new sport program based on sport of Pankration/MMA rules. For that our students are members of Ontario Grappling Association – Provincial Sport Organization in charge of Pankration, the only legal version of Amateur MMA in Ontario
Our students achieved different grades levels. On academic year of 2014-2015 one of our students (from the first public group) became a Black Belt. In 2017 one other our student was tested and promoted to Black Belt. Also in 2018 we had first Junior Black Belt awarded to our student. Next year 2019 same student become regular Black Belt (2019). And recently (March 2021) another student was successfully promoted to Black Belt. Last year (2023), one of our students was promoted to Nidan and 2 others to Shodan (Black Belt). This year (2024) another student was promoted to Nidan.
